Cobwebs

Updated: Dec 28, 2025

The story is told of an old lady who prayed every Wednesday during her Bible study group meeting: “Dear Lord, please remove the cobwebs from my life.” After months of praying the same prayer, one of the group members had quite enough and prayed: “Dear Lord, please kill the spider in the dear lady’s life!

And there you have it: Removing symptoms do not solve a problem. It’s a lot of hard work which yields only temporary relief for as long as the root cause of your problem remains, new symptoms will present themselves.

So what are the cobwebs in your life? These are easy to identify. The trick is to identify the spider.

Is it unresolved past trauma?

A weak self-image?

A lack of communication or life skills?

Irrational beliefs, also known as stinking thinking?

If you are tired of dusting off, or simply living with, the ‘cobwebs’ in your life, consider a hunt for the spider. And if you need someone to go on the hunt with you, reach out via the contact page.

This blog is dedicated to my sister Ilanda, who loves to give people flowers and tell sweet, innocent jokes. Thanks for the story of the old lady and the cobwebs dear Sis, and all the flowers through the years.

True indeed. We are sometimes stuck and overwhelmed by the cobweb, blocking our way, limiting our movement, actions, and our possibilities to escape the unwanted situation we find ourselves in. Removing the cobweb feels like progress, but unless we deal with the spider, the source of the problem, the cycle continues.

It takes courage, clarity, and sometimes uncomfortable action to shift our focus from what's visible (the cobweb) to what's hidden but powerful (the spider), but that is the only way to remove the cobweb for good, to be free, and to grow as a person.
